However, there have been a few incidents around the country that have made many people cautious when dating. Here are some common sense tips to follow when meeting someone new.

The most basic tip is that if you don�t feel comfortable then don�t go out on a date with him or her. Many people feel guilty or sympathy and decide to go out, the truth of the matter is don�t worry about the other person, consider your feelings first.

If you meet someone online or over the phone, try not to give away too much personal information. You don�t need to tell anyone where you live, where exactly you work or any other personal information. While most people respect your privacy, this is the best way to limit the chances you will be harassed.

Meet in a public place for your first date. You might decide to play bowling, meet at a restaurant or show. Wait to go hiking or other activities that require you and your date to be alone in a remote place until you get to know that person.

Lastly, don�t drink much alcohol on your first date. While one or two drinks might be okay, don�t get drunk. If you are drunk, you will have poor judgment and might do something that you will regret.
